Using a plugin, you can now run Jetpack in Development Mode. This is great news because you no longer need a WordPress.com account to activate Jetpack in your WordPress site.
There are some Jetpack modules that do not work in Development Mode (Site Stats, Site Protection, etc.) But Jetpack modules like the Portfolio Custom Post Type, Contact Form, and Share buttons can be activated without a WordPress.com account.
To activate Jetpack in Development Mode, first install Jetpack in your self-hosted WordPress site. Then, download Fanny Pack to your computer. Then upload and activate Fanny Pack in your WordPress site.
